The Langlands Shiptonthorpe Garden Centre is located on the A1079 between the historic towns of York and Beverley, nestled amidst the breathtaking rural countryside of the Yorkshire Wolds. It is the foremost garden centre of the Langlands group, having won multiple prestigious industry distinctions awarded by the Garden Centre Association, most notably the North East Area Award for Best Garden Centre 2015. Originally established by Walter Ducker in 1964, Langlands is still owned and managed by his sons, Robert and John, and their family. If you would like to know a little more about the distinguished history of Langlands, you can read all about our heritage.

Opening Times

We are open 9am ‘til 6pm from Monday to Saturday, and also have a late opening night every Thursday until 8pm. On Sundays, we open from 10:30am to 4:30pm.

At Shiptonthorpe, we are proud to offer our customers an extensive variety of services and departments. Our award-winning Coffee Shop and Café Bar serve up the very best delicious, wholesome, locally produced food and drink every day, most of which is freshly home-cooked on site. We source the vast majority of our ingredients from trusted local traders, and much of this produce is amongst the extensive range of items also available from our dedicated Farm Shop.

  • Sun: 10:30 – 4:30pm

Serving Times – Coffee Shop

  • Mon to Sat: 9am -5:30pm, late opening until 7:30pm on Thursdays.
  • Sun: 10:30am – 4:30pm

Please note that hot food is available to order up until 30 minutes before closing time in either the Cafe Bar or the Coffee Shop.

Our well-appointed Gift Shop provides you the opportunity to search for a perfect present for your loved ones; among the selection of top brands we have on offer, you can also find many locally-themed items reflecting the character and charm of Yorkshire.

Langlands Shiptonthorpe also hosts concessions of the world famous Edinburgh Woollen Mill, one of the UK’s largest high street chains with a wonderful selection of outdoor clothing, and Bose, one of the market leaders in home entertainment technology.

At Langlands, we operate under a stringent Environmental Policy, continuously taking steps to do our bit for the environment by making an active effort with in-store recycling, limiting wastage, and using sustainable materials in our packaging where possible as part of our commitment to minimise our carbon footprint. We also operate a no-smoking policy throughout the garden centre, which also currently applies to e-cigarettes.

Our greatest asset, however, is our enthusiastic, knowledgeable garden centre staff, who are always on hand to assist you with your purchases and to answer any questions you may have about our products and services. It is thanks to the diligence and professionalism of our whole team that we have achieved such high accolades from our customers and from the Garden Centre Association.

tomato-festivalCome and get your tomato plants, accessories, expert advice and let the children participate in the “junior growers” tomato quiz. Get the right answers and winners get a free tomato plant. Approximately 20 different varieties are available, grown and nurtured from seed to plant in the nursery at Shiptonthorpe. Plant care staff will be on hand to provide advice on how to care for your plant when you get them home and maximise your crop of tomatoes.

Held in all Langlands Garden Centres, Shiptonthorpe, Leeds and Sheffield.

The club meets the 2nd Monday of the month 7.30pm to 9pm in the newly refurbished Shiptonthorpe Village Hall. We have guest speakers and outside visits during the summer months. Anyone is welcome to join from or outside the village.

Entry is normally £3 unless we have a particularly expensive speaker or it is an offsite visit to a garden or grower.

The club would like to thank the Shiptonthorpe Village Hall Association for use of their premises & facilities and club sponsors Langlands Garden Centre for providing refreshments and club administration.

Classic Car Show - Langlands Shiptonthorpe

Sponsored by Langlands Garden Centre

The Weighton Wolds Rotary Club will be holding their 3rd Annual Classic Car Show at Langlands Garden Centre Shiptonthorpe. We’ll have enthusiasts on hand, with up to 100 Classic Cars on display with entertainment from the Buckrose Band, and refreshments by Langlands.

Entrance to view the cars will be by donation and all proceeds will go to Weighton Wolds Rotary Club, and all money raised will go to charity.

Entering a classic car to the show is free to driver and navigator, with a voucher for free tea or coffee, and a free prize draw. If you interested in entering a classic car for display please complete the form and return it to John Ducker at Langlands Garden Centre.
